I have competed in various UK arrive and drive championships and was having a lot of fun.
At the start of 2012 I was now looking to drive something a bit faster. With the http://www.OEKC.co.uk offering a path to GMS & Dave Griffiths who will rent out a race prepared Rotax Max for the 4.5 hour enduro race.

I went along to a GSM test session at Whilton Mill and quickly realized this was no corporate kart. In fact the X30/Rotax is the product of GMS Motorsport, run by Dave. Now all of a sudden there is a huge speed difference. You are racing a kart designed to win its class not a corporate kart designed to last the trials of the arrive and drive pilot / novice.

So the first thing I had to clear in my head is that you are renting a 100% race kart, not racing a rental kart. Trust me, that’s a big difference. However the experienced GMS team already know this, and have given a lot of guidance to ease this difference. In a word the difference is consistency. Each time I go out in the kart I know it will perform. The very nature of normal corporate karts means you can get a good one, not so good or a complete donkey. With the X30/Rotax, this equation went out the window. It means I turn up and get on with the driving. For me karting is about how many hours I spend on the track. Session after session the team’s kart just runs and runs so I can get on with improving my driving and having a lot of fun out there & racing against the owner driver teams on level terms.

The corporate karting scene has given me a lot of fun and experience, but now I have the opportunity to drive a much faster kart with greater reliability. I personally think its a great package, placed in a very friendly, well run championship. If you are looking to move up & do some serious racing, at least give it a try. I look forward to racing against you soon.
